During Ramadan, ANHAM Delivers Food Packages and the Iftar Meal
According to a World Food Programme report, more than 1.5 million people in Afghanistan are severely food insecure and another 7.3 million people are moderately food insecure. ANHAM realized this food insufficiency weighs heavily on the local community and has continually looked for ways to use its resources to address this challenge most effectively. ANHAM has since found two ways to support and engage with the community to help stabilize the food situation. The first solution was supplementing the Iftar meal in local Mosques.
ANHAM has since been able to sponsor the meal at multiple Mosques in the region and serve hundreds of people, alleviating food limitations that otherwise might deter the traditional evening meal.
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the 5 Pillars of Islam and provides Muslims the opportunity to rededicate themselves to their faith and worship. Once the sun goes down, the daily fasting concludes with an evening meal, known as the Iftar meal, which ANHAM began sponsoring for the local community. ANHAM has since been able to sponsor the meal at multiple Mosques in the region and serve hundreds of people, alleviating food limitations that otherwise might deter the traditional evening meal. The second solution to address hunger concerns in the local area was to donate food packages including necessities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, dates, tea and bread to hundreds of families. Through both of these programs, ANHAM was able to touch hundreds of families and improve the lives of many in the region.
